The Many Uses of Plastic Netting
October 19, 2016 - TracyThe Many Uses of Plastic Netting
In the 1967 classic movie The Graduate, family friend Mr. McGuire (Walter Brooke) famously tells Benjamin (Dustin Hoffman): “I just want to say one word to you. Just one word….Plastics.” His prediction that there is a “great future” in plastics has proven correct. Plastics are incredibly versatile and can be used for many types of products, including nets. US Netting offers several varieties of plastic netting solutions for a wide range of applications.
Plastic Netting for Agriculture and Pest Prevention
Birds and bats may be great for keeping the bug population under control, but you don’t want them invading your eaves, rafters, or attic space. Their droppings are gross and unhealthy, and bats can carry rabies. Bird nests can also clog chimneys, gas or dryer vents, and gutters, creating serious safety hazards. Keep them out with plastic oriented netting. We offer bird netting in several mesh sizes and roll lengths. Plastic netting is an effective, humane, environmentally friendly exclusion method.
On the ground level, plastic netting can be used to block access to the spaces beneath your deck or porch. It will prevent rabbits, skunks, possums, raccoons, rats, and other critters from making themselves at home and having babies in those spaces. Black netting will blend well visually and is easy to install.
Netting for Gardens
Another use for plastics is in agricultural netting. Some types of climbing plants and vegetables need support to grow and increase their yield. Trellis netting is an inexpensive and safe way to provide structure for these crops while allowing plenty of light and air circulation. It is easily taken down or moved when needed, and is durable enough to last for years.
Not only do birds need to be kept from nesting in your buildings, but they also need to be prevented from eating your crops, especially fruits. Once again, plastic netting provides effective pest control. Crop netting, sometimes called blueberry netting, can be installed over frames made of materials such as suspension rope or PVC pipe, or draped directly over trees and shrubs and secured with zip ties. It is lightweight and will not rust or corrode.
Plastic Netted Fencing
There is a plastic netting solution for larger pests as well. Deer fence will help keep Bambi and his friends from making your vegetable garden or apple orchard their personal buffet. This strong, bi-oriented netting is reusable, flexible, and easy to maintain. Plastic netting also has no sharp edges to harm either the installers or the creatures it keeps out.
Pond Netting for Protecting Fish
Whether you have an ornamental backyard pond with koi or goldfish, or an entire fish hatchery (for stocking trout or other species), you need to keep your fish from becoming convenient snacks for herons, raccoons, and other predators. Pond netting can be stretched over the water to protect your fish from being grabbed and eaten. It serves the added benefit of keeping leaves and other debris out of your pond for easier maintenance. You can easily cut it to the size and shape you need, and if your pond is large, you can use PVC pipe to create support to keep the net from lying on the surface of the water. Pond netting can also be used to create non-toxic, non-corrosive separators or pens within a pond.
Chicken Coop Netting
If you’re raising chickens or game birds such as pheasants, plastic poultry netting can provide a safe, cost-effective alternative to wire net for coops. It’s strong enough to protect your birds from foxes or other predators (especially if it’s buried several inches all the way around the perimeter to prevent burrowing), and it’s durable in all environmental conditions. Also, with all the feathers and chicken droppings that will likely be flying around, it’s a good thing plastic netting is easy to keep clean! We have coop netting available in green, black, or silver.
Netted Safety Fences
Plastic netting can protect not only crops and critters but also humans. Plastic safety fence provides a highly visible barrier to warn people away from dangerous areas such as construction sites or open manholes. It can also be used to manage foot traffic and crowds at large outdoor events or festivals. Snow fence is another type of safety fence used to control snow drifts (to help keep snow off roads, for example).
Plastic netting has many uses and benefits. It’s strong, lightweight, reusable, durable, non-toxic, UV-stabilized, rustproof, and smooth-edged.
