Keep Mosquitos and Midges Away With Mosquito Netting
Summer is here, bringing an increase in fun and healthy outdoor activities that expose us to fresh air, sunshine…and bugs. Mosquitoes and those tiny biting midges commonly known as “no-see-ums” can quickly ruin a picnic, backyard gathering, or camping trip. Protect your loved ones and prolong your outdoor enjoyment by using one of our high-quality mosquito netting products.
Not only do mosquito bites cause itchy, annoying red welts, but they can also transmit several diseases to humans, including West Nile virus, yellow fever, several strains of encephalitis, and malaria. These insects can be even more deadly to our beloved pets: just one bite from an infected mosquito can transmit heartworm to dogs, cats, and ferrets, ruining their health and requiring expensive treatment. (Your pet should be on a heartworm preventive prescribed by a veterinarian.)
No-see-ums are not known to transmit diseases in humans in the U.S. (though they do in other parts of the world), but they can affect livestock. These tiny creatures--about 1/16 of an inch, even smaller than a flea--can do some fierce chewing on people. According to Lynn Kinsey, professor of entomology at UC Davis, “A single bite can welt into a one- or two-inch diameter spot, which lasts about two weeks.” She warns that “scratching makes the itchy bites last twice as long and can lead to infected sores.” Some people are particularly sensitive to these painful bites.
High-Quality Mosquito Netting
So what can you do? Mosquito netting is one effective means of keeping these swarming little vampires at bay, and US Netting offers several options. We use a superior grade of no-see-um netting, which is a finer, tighter weave than standard mosquito fabric (and much smaller mesh than a regular window screen), yet is still sheer enough to be seen through easily. We sell the raw material by the foot for do-it-yourself projects, and we have the widest rolls available online: 162 inches. This material comes in white nylon or olive drab polyester, is fire retardant for increased safety around campfires or candles, and does not unravel at the edges when cut.
Other effective ways are in the form of sprays, bands, patches, and much more. You can find the best mosquito repellent from our friends at Survival-Mastery.com.
Custom Mosquito Netting
We also use this fabric to create custom-sized mosquito netting curtains with two types of finished edges. Economy panels are bordered with 1-inch webbing and grommets for easy fastening. Premium panels feature a 2-inch webbing border with grommets and can also include a “hook & loop” fastening strip (which is similar to VELCRO® brand fasteners, a registered trademark of Velcro Industries B.V.) along one edge of your choice to create an even tighter seal. Our skilled fabricators hand-craft these mosquito curtains to your requirements, right here in America. (Please note that these custom orders can take a little extra time to complete, because we put care into providing the highest quality finished product.)
These photos, provided by one of our valued customers, show several of our olive drab custom mosquito netting panels protecting an outdoor patio area, allowing people to dine and sit outside shielded from even the tiniest biting bugs. And of course this netting also prevents larger flies and bees from dive-bombing your head or your food.
